Khabarovsk is the center of economic and cultural life of the Amur region

Founded in 1958 as a military post, Khabarovsk quickly (by 1980) acquired the status of a city with important political and economic opportunities. Despite its relative youth, Khabarovsk offers a wide range of cultural and historical heritage sites.

The symbol of the city is called the bronze monument to Yerofey Khabarovsk, erected on the forecourt on the date of the centenary of the founding of the city and is the first among the sights of Khabarovsk.

The Khabarovsk Regional Museum, founded by Governor N.I.Grodekov at the end of the 19th century, tells about the history of the Amur region, the animal and plant world. Numerous exhibitions, expositions and 3-D panoramas give a complete picture of the Khabarovsk Territory.

N.N.Muravyov Park, Governor of Eastern Siberia and founder of Khabarovsk, is located on the Amur River. Initially called the city garden, later the Park of culture and recreation, it was only in 2007 that it acquired the current name of the Khabarovsk Regional Park. The main attraction is the monument to N.N.Muravyov-Amursky.

The Khabarovsk Bridge over the Amur River, built in 1913-16, was rebuilt several times. Today, the two-level bridge has two lanes of automobile traffic (in the upper part) and two tracks of railway traffic (in the lower part). For a long time, the bridge carried all the load associated with crossing the Amur River.

The Platinum Arena was built to host sports and entertainment events in the city. Built in 2003, the complex covers an area of about 6 hectares: three parking lots, an adjacent green area with fountains and the stadium itself.

The Amur Fish Aquarium Museum, opened in 2005, features up to 105 species of fish whose habitat is defined by Amur. From 12 to 14 thousand people visit the museum annually. Visitors can get advice on any of the aspects of the vital activity of each type of fish.

The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Mother of God, built in 1886, was the first of the stone churches in Khabarovsk. Destroyed in 1930 and rebuilt in 2002 according to a new design, the cathedral, in addition to the wealth of murals and architectural compositions, pleases visitors with the opportunity to venerate two miraculous icons: the Word of Flesh and the Tikhvin Mother of God.

The Primorsky Zoo was opened on the site of former children's camps relatively recently, in 2002. Up to 70 animals live in close to natural conditions. The zoo's administration regularly holds themed events dedicated to various animals for young visitors.
